Chipping around the green is easier if you know how to adjust your stance, clubface and swing based on your position and lie. The same goes for chipping out of different cuts of rough and so on. View PGA Professional, Johan Kok, as he helps break it down, and simplify the different types of chipping so you can get up-and-down more during you next round.
Chipping From Intermediate Rough
Ball Position: Center
Club Face: Square
Stance: Normal Stance
Intermediate rough is usually about an 1 1/2 of rough, so you don’t have to change your stance, clubface, or swing too much. Use a 60 degree wedge or something close. Put the ball in the middle of your stance and swing just bit harder then you would from the fringe of the green.
Chipping From Primary or Thicker Rough
Ball Position: Back
Club Face: Open
Stance: Feet a Little Open
Primary rough is much thicker and higher then the intermediate rough so you need to open your clubface and feet and put the ball back toward you back foot. Around the greeen, use the same 60 degree wedge or comparable. Open up your club face and swing harder then from the intermediate rough because the club will get caught in the rough a bit more and this is also why you will be opening your club face.
